Interim Director of Nursing (DON)

Join Our Clinical Team

Full-Time & Interim

Minneapolis, MN

POSITION SUMMARY

We are looking for experienced Directors of Nursing who can walk into a building and steady it. This is contract leadership work — you may be covering a vacancy, supporting a new DON, correcting survey deficiencies, or standing up clinical systems in a facility that has been running short. You will be the top clinical leader on site, accountable for resident care, regulatory compliance, and the nursing team, with our leadership behind you the entire assignment.

ABOUT THE COMPANY

Caring Clinical Partners is a Minnesota-based clinical consulting and staffing agency built by operators, not recruiters. Our leadership has run long-term care buildings, sat through surveys, and carried the pager. We place experienced clinical leadership and support staff in skilled nursing, assisted living, rehabilitation, memory care, and transitional care facilities across Minnesota — and we back our people 100% of the time.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Direct the day-to-day operation of the nursing department and the delivery of resident care by RNs, LPNs, TMAs, and CNAs

  • Ensure compliance with federal Conditions of Participation, CMS regulations, Minnesota Department of Health rules, and facility policy

  • Oversee the Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) process — MDS assessments, CAAs, and care plans completed within regulatory timeframes

  • Lead survey readiness: mock surveys, plan of correction development, and follow-through on cited deficiencies

  • Review quality measures, infection control data, and clinical reports; drive resolution of identified gaps

  • Investigate resident concerns, incidents, and unusual occurrences; complete required reporting

  • Assign work, coach, evaluate, and when necessary discipline nursing staff in coordination with facility administration

  • Manage nursing schedules, agency usage, and labor costs against budget

  • Oversee physician communication, medication management systems, and clinical documentation quality

  • Partner with the Administrator and interdisciplinary team on admissions, census, and clinical capability

  • Mentor and develop the facility's permanent nursing leadership so the building is stronger when you leave than when you arrived

QUALIFICATIONS
Required
Preferred
  • Active Minnesota Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing

  • Minimum 5 years of nursing experience, with at least 2 years in long-term care leadership (DON, ADON, or Nurse Manager)

  • Working knowledge of CMS regulations, the survey process, and Minnesota Department of Health requirements

  • Experience with the RAI/MDS process and care planning

  • Proficiency with electronic health records (PointClickCare or similar)

  • BSN or higher

  • Prior interim, consulting, or multi-facility experience

  • Experience leading a facility through a state survey or through correction of a substandard quality of care citation

  • RAC-CT or comparable MDS certification

CREDENTIALING REQUIREMENTS

All Caring Clinical Partners professionals must have the following on file before an assignment begins:

  • Current BLS/CPR certification (where required for the role or client facility)

INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR TERMS
  • This is a 1099 independent contractor position, not employment with Caring Clinical Partners or the client facility. You control the manner and means of your professional work.

  • As an independent contractor, you are responsible for your own federal and state taxes, professional liability coverage, and license maintenance.

  • On-call days must be listed by the consultant to be paid.

  • Lodging may be arranged for assignments far from home.
