Interim Director of Nursing (DON)

Direct the day-to-day operation of the nursing department and the delivery of resident care by RNs, LPNs, TMAs, and CNAs

Ensure compliance with federal Conditions of Participation, CMS regulations, Minnesota Department of Health rules, and facility policy

Oversee the Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) process — MDS assessments, CAAs, and care plans completed within regulatory timeframes

Lead survey readiness: mock surveys, plan of correction development, and follow-through on cited deficiencies

Review quality measures, infection control data, and clinical reports; drive resolution of identified gaps

Investigate resident concerns, incidents, and unusual occurrences; complete required reporting

Assign work, coach, evaluate, and when necessary discipline nursing staff in coordination with facility administration

Manage nursing schedules, agency usage, and labor costs against budget

Oversee physician communication, medication management systems, and clinical documentation quality

Partner with the Administrator and interdisciplinary team on admissions, census, and clinical capability

Mentor and develop the facility's permanent nursing leadership so the building is stronger when you leave than when you arrived
